Professional Experience
In 2011, Michael Tone became a founding member of George F. Bradlau & Associates, PLLC, a firm concentrating on integrity and compliance monitoring, internal investigations, complex litigation and environmental law.

Mr. Tone concentrates his practice on integrity and compliance monitoring, internal investigations and complex environmental matters related to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (“Superfund”), the Clean Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Clean Air Act, and the corresponding state environmental statutes and regulations. Mr. Tone defends clients in administrative enforcement matters, civil suits, and criminal prosecutions brought under common law, and federal and state environmental laws and regulations and companies and facilities in complex environmental litigation involving class actions and claims for personal injury and property damage.

In addition, Mr. Tone represents clients with regard to environmental issues that arise during transactions, and conducts due diligence for acquisition and disposition of assets and property.

Prior to entering into private practice, he served as associate counsel and deputy division director of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Division of Environmental Enforcement. In that capacity, he supervised attorneys and technical experts from DEC’s field offices around New York State in Superfund, water quality, and criminal enforcement matters. From 1980 to 1984, Mr. Tone was the assistant counsel-in-charge of the White Plains office of DEC’s Hazardous Waste Disposal Site Compliance Team. While he was assistant counsel with the Compliance Team, Mr. Tone represented the DEC in New York State Superfund cases in the Long Island, Mid-Hudson, and New York City metropolitan areas. Prior to joining the DEC, he was an Assistant Attorney General with the New York Statewide Organized Crime Task Force, where he directed the investigation and prosecuted through trial organized criminal activity. He was also an Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s office where he was assigned to the Felony Trial and Rackets Bureaus.

While at the DEC, Mr. Tone played a principal role in drafting the Omnibus Environmental Crimes Act of 1986. He also served on the faculty of the EPA-sponsored Northeast Hazardous Waste Project, where he frequently lectured to regulatory and law enforcement personnel from the thirteen northeast states on criminal environmental enforcement investigation techniques.

Mr. Tone lectures on various aspects of environmental law and has published articles on investigating and defending environmental crimes.

Mr. Tone is admitted to practice in New York and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Eastern District of Tennessee. He also represents clients before various federal and state agencies, as well as local governments.

Public Service
Mr. Tone serves as a Commissioner and Chairman of his town's Environmental Protection and Inland Wetland and Watercourse Commission.
